WOMEN
Woman is more fitted than man to make exploration and take bolder action in nonviolence.
There is no occasion for women to consider themselves subordinate or inferior to man.
Woman is the companion of man, gifted with equal mental capacity.
If by strength is meant moral power, then woman is immeasurably man's superior.
If nonviolence is the law of our being, the future is with women.
Woman, I hold, is the personification of self-sacrifice, but unfortunately today she does not realize what tremendous advantage she has over man.

Re: ...or was he just trying to get in their pants???
Fri, April 8, 2005 - 2:06 PMYeah, I remember reading that what when I was a kid. He even wanted menstruate. (...and let me tell you, if that doesn't mess with you at 8).
From what I remember he believed that he was working towards a form of higher consciousness (which transcended the body's desires), which eventually had physiological results and that he was testing himself. I didn't know they were virgins though...hmm.
I also remember thinking this wasn't no uncle figure I was dealing with.
It recently got me questioning about how repressed sex is when it comes to spirituality, although I’m still squeamishly on the fence on that one. I prefer Buddha's outlook from when he decided to eat meat. Sorry about the odd analogy.
Mad, Harry...love you bro! -

Re: ...or was he just trying to get in their pants???
Fri, April 8, 2005 - 3:41 PMHmmn...well, they may have not been virgins...but I agree, it was some sort of transcendance thing.
Yeah, I never understood why sex and spirituality are supposed to be mutually exclusive..guess I'll never attain my full realization ;P
I hadn't heard about Budha and meat..please tell... -

Re: ...or was he just trying to get in their pants???
Fri, April 8, 2005 - 5:23 PMI had read it somewhere (who knows) where he ate meat that was placed before him in a home he visited, but it was not butchered for him. His monks were a little annoyed but I guess they got over it. I can't remember exactly why he thought it was okay except that it had to with balance and the state of mind.
I found this;
The act of being vegetarian has been associated to the development of high moral and ethical values. To this the Lord Buddha Gotama remarks :
"Neither meat, nor fasting, nor nakedness
Nor shaven heads, nor matted hair, nor dirt,
Nor rough skin, nor fire-worshipping,
Nor all penances here in this world,
Nor hymns, nor oblations, nor sacrifice,
Nor feast of the season,
Will purify a man overcome with doubt"
(Amagandha Sutta)
In the Jivaka Sutta, The Lord Buddha Gotama touches upon this subject:
"Taking life, beating, cutting, binding, stealing, lying, fraud, deceit, pretence at knowledge, adultery;
This is uncleanliness and not the eating of flesh."
"When men are rough and harsh, backbiting, Treacherous, without compassion, haughty, ungenerous and do not give anything to anybody;
This is uncleanliness and not the eating of flesh."
"When men are of bad moods, refuse to pay their debts, slanderers, deceitful in their teachings, pretenders, when the vilest of men commit foul deeds;
This is uncleanliness and not the eating of flesh."
"When men attach living beings either because of greed or hostility, and are always bent upon evil, they go to darkness after death and fall headlong into hell;
This is uncleanliness and not the eating of flesh."
These statements clearly illustrate that partaking meat will not make a person impure. Rather, it is the mindset, the attitudes and mental makeup and eventual behavior of a person that eventually determine the moral and ethical status of the person.

Re: ...or was he just trying to get in their pants???
Fri, April 8, 2005 - 5:37 PMOOH..that is great stuff.
I was a vegetarian for 17 years and stopped out of convenience.
I considered being a vegetarian again..but , although I only eat meat occasionally..I 'm just not passionate about vegetarianism they way Io used to be.
*I was veg out of respect for animals*

Re: .Brahmacaraya
Tue, February 7, 2006 - 9:02 PMBrahamcaraya can mean a load of different things to different people. I don't know which meaning Mohandaji used but here are the full spectrum of meanings I am aware of:
1. Wanking without ejeculation.
2. Fucking without ejeculation.
3. A vow of total celibacy.
4. Orgasmic meditative absorbsion into Brahma and the solar form of Divinity by drawing sexual energy up to the crown chakra.
5. Sleeping next to menstruating teens I have never heard of. WTF?
6. Planned marital sex, by the new or full moon, conducted according to religious obserances.
7. Dedication of the sex aspect to spiritual goals via intent and sometimes magickal observances, with normal ejeculation.
